HHS off to solid start in FVC games
HUNTLEY – The first two games of the Fox Valley Conference(FVC)season included a stellar individual effort and a welcome back for one of the returning veterans.
HHS benefited from Ian Ravagnie’s seven three-point baskets, while a total of six players contributed long range hoops for 15 total, in a 69-53 win over Prairie Ridge Nov. 30.
Then senior Noah Only saw his first varsity action after recovering from an injury and scored 16 points as Huntley downed Jacobs 49-35 Dec. 2.
HHS lost a game at the Crohn’s and Colitis Shootout, to Naperville North, 46-29 on Dec. 3. HHS’s FVC games continue as they host Cary-Grove Dec. 7 and at Hampshire Dec. 9.
Win over Wolves
“We did a fantastic job of finding Ravagnie open with good passes and unselfish cuts,” Huntley coach Will Benson said. “We worked on ball reversals to create open shots.”
“I practice a lot in the off-season,” Ravagnie said. Ravagnie, 6-4, shot like his hero, NBA superstar Steph Curry, who makes close to 50 percent of his shots from beyond the arc.
Team captain Ravagnie is one of the elder statesmen for this season’s Huntley squad.
“We graduated a lot of seniors last year so we had to pick it up,” Ravagnie said. At one point, he made three straight treys as the visitors built up a 20-point fourth quarter lead.
He added a couple of late two-pointers, but one play stood out to him, too. “The blocked shot,” he said when asked which was more impressive.
Ravagnie accounted for almost half of his team’s 15 long-distance makes. Lucas Crosby added 12 points and Ethan Blackmore poured in three treys for nine. HHS set the tone early as its first three hoops were all treys, by Ethan Blackmore, Omare Segarra and Ravagnie.
“Both teams shoot a lot of threes so we knew going in it would be big,” Benson said.
Top rival Jacobs
The Red Raiders and Golden Eagles clashed Dec. 2 and Only made his presence felt early and ended with 16 points. Ravagnie added seven points while Ty Goodrich and Mark Roesner chipped in six.
“Only gives us added depth,” Benson said. “We had outstanding team defense. A special mention to Blackmore for all the little things he did.”
Naperville North game
HHS’s squad headed to Wheaton Warrenville South for a non-conference clash with Naperville
North Dec. 3. The Huskies, however, got the better of the Red Raiders, handing them a 46-27 loss. Huntley was led by Ravagnie who tallied 10 points.
“We were tied at halftime and Naperville North really played well defensively and shut us down,” Benson said. “They had some nice athletes and some length which gave us some problems. All in all we played three games last week and five of the six halves pretty solid.”
