
Kane County Coroner’s Office officially confirms body found in Fox River as that of missing Algonquin woman
ALGONQUIN — On Dec. 4, the Algonquin Police Department released a press release calling for the public’s assistance regarding an Algonquin resident that was reported missing.
52-year-old Kimberly Koerner was reportedly last seen that Sunday morning at around 9 a.m. walking away from the Jewel Food Store located at 1501 E. Algonquin Road.
Those close to Koerner stated that she did not go inside the store and left her purse and other personal items inside her vehicle, which she parked at Jewel.
Various surrounding towns participated in sharing the details of Koerner’s disappearance, however, on the morning of Dec. 5, reports were made that the Carpentersville Fire Department was responding to the area of Williams and Bolz roads for a report of a body found in the Fox River in Carpentersville.
A few hours later, the Algonquin Police Department issued a statement updating the community members on the situation.
“The Algonquin Police Department would like to thank everyone for calling in and the tips that came to us in regards to our communities’ missing person, Kimberly Koerner,” said the police department on their Facebook page. “We regret to inform that a body fitting the description of Kimberly, was located and the body has been taken by the Kane County Coroner’s Office for official identification. Our thoughts and sympathies are with her family and friends.”
The Algonquin Police Department added that this incident does not appear to involve foul play, but will continue to be investigated.
At approximately 2 p.m. on Dec. 5, the Kane County Coroner’s Office officially identified the body pulled from the Fox River to being that of Koerner.
An autopsy is scheduled to take place on Dec. 7.
The Carpentersville Police and Fire departments were assisted in their recovery efforts by the East Dundee Fire Department, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the Kane County Forest Preserve Police, and the Algonquin Police Department.
