
Bounce back win follows girls’ first loss
HUNTLEY — Huntley responded to a tough loss to an area power with a convincing Fox Valley Conference victory.
The Red Raiders fell 61-49 to Lake Zurich at the Chicagoland Shootout Dec. 3. HHS used stiff defense and strong perimeter shooting for a 59-46 Fox Valley Conference win over Cary-Grove Dec. 6. HHS stood at 7-1, 3-0 FVC.
Jessica Ozzauto led the effort against Lake Zurich with 23 points and Anna Campanelli added 13.
“We did a nice job coming back and we learned from the Lake Zurich game,” Huntley coach Steve Raethz said. “Against C-G, it was a real solid effort with a lot of contributions from a lot of different people.”
Samantha Campanelli led the scoring against the Trojans with 19 points and sister Anna added 15. Anna McFadden made three three-pointers as she finished with 11 points.
The Red Raiders made eight three-pointers by the middle of the third quarter as its lead grew to 20 points.
“Cary-Grove made a couple of runs at us in the second half but each time we had an answer,” Raethz said.
HHs faced a FVC rival Hampshire (5-2, 2-0) Dec. 9 and battles defending Class 3A state champion Stevenson at 2 p.m. Dec. 10 at Now Arena in Hoffman Estates.
