D158’s Hannah Martin Elementary School placed under a ‘Hold in Place and Teach’ lockdown due to ‘safety concerns’
LAKE IN THE HILLS — On Jan. 5, officials from both Huntley Community School District 158 (D158) and Hannah Martin Elementary School (10920 Reed Road) announced that due to an “ongoing investigation of a potential safety concern at the school,” a Hold in Place and Teach lockdown was being implemented.
Several parents reported seeing a heavy police presence at the school as well as police canine units.
While officials did not specify what the exact threat was at the time of this reporting, they did state that there is no danger to student or staff safety.
“Students and staff are safely learning in the classrooms. Lake in the Hills Police Department is on campus to aid in our response as we work to keep our students and staff safe and determine if a safety threat is present,” said D158. “At this time, Marlowe Middle School and Chesak Elementary School are not impacted by this investigation.”
Martin Elementary School Principal Michele Happold stated that students would be served their lunches in their classrooms to ensure their safety while the investigation continues.
The Lake in the Hills Police Department asked the community to not call 911 or the department’s non-emergency number regarding the investigation as updates will be provided by D158.
