HHS soph bowlers play big role
HUNTLEY — Huntley’s bowling teams hopes have been boosted by a group of sophomores this winter.
For the girls team, Erica DeBello and Prianca Waters are 10th graders. Bowling against Burlington Central, DeBello has a 288 game to her credit and she won the individual title at Grayslake North Invite Dec. 28 as the team ended second.
“DeBello bowled great against BC and at Lockport; she is so consistent,” HHS coach Asheleigh Bourdeau said.
The boys squad has Landon Conforti, Matthew Fishman, Austin Tenglin and Joey Humphrey contributing. Humphrey bowled a 672 series and a high game of 279 in a match against South Elgin Jan. 4.
“All of the sophomores are working super hard to become their best this year and the future,” HHS boys bowling coach Jacob Wagner said. “They are all different in their own way and are a valuable part of the team.”
The boys squad is a solid 9-3 in duals after a 3,396 to 3,228 win over Grayslake North, led by Humphrey’s 629 series.
Huntley will host St. Charles North and it will be senior night for Caleb Vergona and Josh Waters Jan. 11 at Bowl-Hi Lanes. Next is the IHSA DeKalb regional Jan. 14.
HHS then fell to South Elgin, 3,076 to 3,026.
“It was a great match-up between two really good teams,” Wagner said of the South Elgin match.
