Tenglin progresses in bowling skills
HUNTLEY — Huntley sophomore Austin Tenglin is one of the contributors to the varsity squad’s success. The Red Raiders have a 9-3 record in duals with one remaining prior to the Jan. 14 IHSA regional at Sycamore.
Tenglin, a bowler since his toddler years, answered survey questions for My Huntley News.
Describe your start in bowling, age and youth leagues.
Austin Tenglin: “I started bowling around age 5 and my dad was the one who got me into bowling. I started bowling at Glo-Bowl in Marengo as my first youth league. Ever since then, I have been bowling all the time, whenever I can.”
Any mentors from last year’s team who helped you?
Tenglin: “AJ DeBello and Nick Zummo were really good mentors to me last year. They helped me with my game and mechanics to help me get better. They also embraced me as a freshman on varsity.”
Biggest challenge as you learned the sport?
Tenglin: “I would say the biggest challenge I learned was bowling on sports shot oil patterns. They are still real difficult for me to bowl on. My skill has developed by bowling on sports shot oil patterns so I can be more familiar with bowling on team. My skill has developed bowling a 299 (game) as a freshman on varsity last year. This past month I shot my personal best series 753.”
Other sports you have been involved in the past or currently?
Tenglin: “I used to play baseball but I stopped playing that three to five years ago to pursue bowling.”
