Human trafficking sting conducted by various law enforcement agencies results in arrest in McHenry County
WOODSTOCK—McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally and Woodstock Police Chief John Lieb issued a joint statement on Jan. 18 regarding the arrest of 32-year-old Woodstock resident Jesus Cortez.
Cortez was taken into custody on two Class 4 felony charges of indecent solicitation of a minor and grooming. The arrest occurred during a human trafficking sting.
According to Kenneally and Lieb, the operation was planned, coordinated, and executed on Jan. 12 in the 1900 block of Sheila Street in Woodstock, by the McHenry County’s Human Trafficking Task Force.
The investigation was the culmination of weeks of work by law enforcement and undercover operations, stated Kenneally.
The McHenry County Human Trafficking Task Force is made up of various law enforcement agencies including the Algonquin Police Department, Cary Police Department, Crystal Lake Police Department, Huntley Police Department, Lake in the Hills Police Department, Johnsburg Police Department, McHenry Police Department, Spring Grove Police Department, Woodstock Police Department, and the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
McHenry County Court records indicate that Cortez last appeared in court on Jan. 17 to set a date for his preliminary court hearing, however, that date has not yet been listed.
His bail was set at $5,000 with 10% ($500) needed to apply for bond.
“Thank you to the police departments and federal agencies that participated in the Taskforce as we continue to confront the urgent problem of human trafficking in all its forms throughout the county,” stated Kenneally.
