Huntley educator gains National Board certification renewal
HUNTLEY — Shilo DeYoung, a Multi Tiered Support Service provider at Heineman Middle School, has achieved her renewal for National Board Certification Teacher(NBCT).
DeYoungis one of 127 teachers across the state of Illinois to certify and one of the 336 teachers to re-certify as an NBCT, according to a Diatrict 158 press release.
“I originally was certified 10 years ago and we had to renew for a five-year renewal,” DeYoung said. “The first time for NBCT, I took classes and had a mentor teacher. The renewal process is extensive and involved a lot of paperwork and videos.”
There was the waiting from the NBCT national officials.
“I completed the renewal last spring but did not know the results until December that I was renewed as an Exceptional Needs Specialist.”
The NBCT program is coordinated in Illinois by National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University in Bloomington-Normal.
“Huntley District 158 is excited to celebrate and congratulate DeYoung along with thousands of other educators currently pursuing NBCT certification, seen as the profession’s mark of accomplished teaching,” according to a District 158 release.
DeYoung works with many teaching teams across grade levels on curriculum matters.
She has worked at Huntley District 158 schools for 25 years. In addition to her NBCT certification DeYoung is also a classroom teacher at Heineman Middle School. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Northern Illinois University; a Master’s degree in curriculum from National Louis University and a masters degree in education administration from Aurora University.
