
Red Raiders girls bowlers move on to sectional
HUNTLEY — Huntley’s girls bowling team finished strong at the Marengo regional, earning a third spot of four sectional qualifiers. Sophomore Erica DeBello won the fourth place individual honor and earned a top four finish medal.
The Red Raiders concluded with 4,683 pins, 20 pins ahead of the final qualifier, Woodstock. Fox Lake Grant won the regional championship and Marengo was second at Glo-Lo Lanes.
“We were pretty focused and just wanted to have fun,” DeBello said.
HHS head coach Asheley Boudreau was thrilled with the team’s achievement.
“The mood was high and we kept cheering each other on,” Boudreau said. “We’re proud of our performance. We have a great group of girls.”
DeBello finished with 1,159 pins to lead the team while freshman Katie Scaletta also topped 1,000 at 1,027. Sophomore Prianca Waters was next at 849 followed by senior Taylor Dulson at 819.
“Scaletta had a very consistent day,” Boudreau said. “She has matured this season and had a fantastic tournament.”
Huntley was in fifth place at one point in the second round but passed up Dundee-Crown and Woodstock in the 12-team field. Other scores from Huntley were: senior Jessica Roberts, 463; and senior Grace Lehmann, 367 pins.
Up next will be the Dundee-Crown sectional Feb. 11 with bids to the IHSA State Girls Bowling meet at Cherry Bowl Lanes in Rockford Feb. 18 at stake. Liberty Lanes in Carpentersville will host the sectional.
The Red Raiders were coming off the closest of matches to end the dual match season as they beat Belvidere by two pins.
