Police: safety is game plan for all this weekend
HUNTLEY — Super Bowl weekend is here and Huntley Police Department and area law enforcement agencies are giving pointers as the nation watches the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs battle Feb. 12.
“The Huntley Police Department is reminding football fans and party-goers that designated drivers are the best defense against the dangers of impaired driving,” Huntley Police Department said in a Feb. 8 press release. “If your Super Bowl celebration involves alcohol or cannabis, plan for a ride home with a safe driver. If you’re hosting the party, take care of the designated drivers. Fans don’t let fans drive drunk.”
According to law enforcement, follow these simple tips for a safe celebration:
Drunk or high, it doesn’t matter. It is never OK to drive impaired.
Designate a sober driver or plan to use public transportation or a ride service to get home safely.
Use your community’s sober ride program.
The Huntley Police Department will be conducting special patrols throughout the weekend to crack down on impaired drivers and encourage people to wear their seat belts. The campaign, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” runs from Feb. 10-13. It is administered and funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
