
Challengers carry District 158 vote
Almost 13,000 voters in Huntley School Board of Education cast ballots in the McHenry County Consolidated Election April 4.
When the counting by McHenry County Clerk’s office was complete, the unofficial totals showed four challengers for Huntley School Board of Education District 158 seats in a 12-person field. The totals are minus provisional, write-ins and late arriving vote by mail ballots.
District 158 four-year term results
Four-year term challengers Laura Murray of Algonquin; Gina Galligar of Huntley and Andrew Bittman of Huntley were leading with 100 percent of the precincts counted. Murray was in first place with 1,585 votes while Galligar edged Bittman, 1,482 to 1,480 votes.
Those who came up short in the four-year term race included Katherine Policheri of Huntley, 1,180 votes; appointed board member Jonathan Dailey, and Paula Yensen, both of Huntley, received 934 votes; one-term incumbent Melissa Maiorino, 787 votes; Stephen Buchs of Huntley garnered 661 and 12-year incumbent William Geheren, 472 votes.
Two-year term results
The two-year office term also was won by a newcomer as Michael Thompson of Huntley won more than 45 % of the vote, 1,615, compared to Andy Fekete’s 955 votes and 15-year incumbent Kevin Gentry’s 747 votes.
Huntley Village Board had three candidates seeking three seats. The board will include Vito Benigno, who received 748 votes; John Piwko, 725 votes and Ric Zyodorowicz, 652 votes. All are newcomers as incumbents Niko Kanakaris, Curt Kittel and Harry Leopold did not seek re-election.
Huntley Fire Protection District
The HFPD Board of Trustees race was three candidates for two six-year terms. Incumbent Bonnie Bayser won with 2,790 votes while incumbent John Davis had 2,644 votes and led challenger Brian Fluhler, 2,348 votes.
Huntley Area Public Library
The HAPL Board of Trustees had four openings but three candidates. Elected were Leslie Smith, Vito Bengino and Sean Cratty.
Huntley Park Commissioner
William Awe and Jerry Nepermann were not opposed to the park board.
MCC Board of Trustees
McHenry County College Board of Trustees had six-year and two-year terms up for election, Suzanne Haban led in her bid for election with 13,251 votes and Alyssa Kueffer received 10,579 votes for six-year terms. Kirk Donald finished third with 9,058 votes. Tess Reinhard led for the two-year term, with 10,737 votes to Mark Daniels’ 8,816 votes.
