Police plan Drug Take Back events
HUNTLEY — Area police departments are participating in the Drug Enforcement Agency’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Saturday, April 22.
Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital will join the Huntley Police Department for an event for community members from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on April 22, at the hospital’s Huntley campus, Medical Office Building No. 1, 10350 Haligus Road, Huntley.
The event aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of unused opioids and other prescription medications, while also educating the general public about the potential for misuse of medications. Unused medications thrown in the trash can be retrieved and abused, or illegally sold. If they are flushed, they can contaminate the water supply. Proper use of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment.
New at this year’s event will be the addition of Naxloxone training and distribution at all collection sites.
Sharps and liquids will not be accepted, and Take Back Day is for community members, not for commercial organizations.
Lake in the Hills and Algonquin police departments will also host National Drug Take Back Day events April 22.
LITH’s event will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at LITH Police Department, 1115 Crystal Lake Road, lower lobby. The service is free of charge and anonymous, no questions asked.
The Algonquin Police Department’s National DEA Drug Take Back Day will be 10 -2 p.m. April 22. It will beheld at the police department lobby, 2200 Harnish Drive, Algonquin. The event is free and anonymous.
