Trustees give go-ahead to Sun City road work
HUNTLEY — The Huntley Village Board’s actions paved the way for construction begin on the 2023 Street Improvement Program (SIP).
At the April 13 meeting, trustees voted to authorize a bid award to Arrow Construction for $3,773,128. The street improvements will be in the Del Webb’s Sun City area and were scheduled to begin April 17. Also, a resolution to appropriate $1,250,000 in Motor Fuel Tax Funds for maintenance of streets and highways was approved and approval granted to use $1,759,107 in Rebuild Illinois Funds.
Director of public works and engineering Tim Farrell explained that a presentation was made at Sun City Neighborhood Council April 10. The SIP is expected to take until late August.
“There is a lot going on with the village infrastructure, with the water treatment plant and all the road work,” Mayor Tim Hoeft said. “I would like to thank the staff for their hard work in securing developer donations.”
Farrell gave a comparison of the recent Sun City road investments by years.
“From 2018-22, the village spent $1.3 million in the SIP for seven miles of road resurfacing. Now we’re investing in one year, $4.6 million and that is more than the previous five years,” Farrell said. “The bids for the work came in very competitive.”
Farrell answered some FAQs Sun City residents may have.
Will I have access to my driveway during the project?
“Yes, during the concrete removal and replacement phases, asphalt driveways apron replacements, roadway asphalt base patching, removal of existing roadway pavement.”
Will on-street parking be allowed during the project?
“The police department is aware of the project and on-street parking will be allowed for those residents directly impacted by the work. Residents who are not impacted by the work are encouraged to avoid parking on the street to allow space for the residents who will be required to park on the roadway.”
The SIP work will include sidewalk improvements as well, at a cost of $189,161 for 2,753 sidewalk saw cuts.
In another improvement project, a contract was awarded to Plote Construction, Inc., for Jim Dhamer Drive, Dell Webb Boulevard and Manning Road improvements, at a cost of $1,286,928. Also approved was a contract for engineering services with Christopher B. Burke, at a cost of $346,000.
