Huntley business owner only the second person to receive a new award from Judson University
ELGIN — Bob Karas, owner of multiple restaurants including the Rookies Sports Bar & Grill located at 12220 Princeton Drive in Huntley, was recently bestowed with Judson University’s “Honorary Alumni Award.”
The Elgin-based private Christian university stated that the award is the highest honor given to friends and supporters of Judson University, “who are not already alumni.”
Huntley is not the only area with a Rookies establishment. Karas also owns Rookies restaurants in Crystal Lake, Elgin, St. Charles, Geneva, Hoffman Estates, Roselle, and Ingleside.
According to the university, Karas is the owner of the Karas Restaurant Group, which operates various other restaurants including Village Squire and Alexander’s Café.
Karas took over the Karas Restaurant Group from his father and uncle, who were the founders.
Judson University added that Karas is only the second recipient of the newest Alumni Award. Judson President Gene Crume and the university’s Spirit Squad presented Karas with his award.
Karas was very thankful for the award, stating on Facebook, “It’s an honor to be associated and recognized [by] Judson University! [I’m] proud to be only the second Honorary Alumni in the history of JU!”
Alexander’s Café (1725 N State Street, Elgin) has been hosting Judson University’s Spirit Squad every year in August after the team returns to campus for their leadership training.
