Huntley hosts annual Arbor Day tree planting event
HUNTLEY — The Village of Huntley hosted its annual Arbor Day tree planting event April 28. Left, Robert Kaiser of the Village of Huntley Finance Department and Violet Montenego, age 6, of Hampshire, help plant one of two Northern Red trees. Huntley has gained certified Tree City status. According to a flier distributed at the event at the municipal complex, the trees are a good street tree, which tolerates pollution and compacted soil. Northern Red trees grow as much as two feet a year for the first 10 years and grow to 60′ to 75′ with a 45′ spread. They can live for 300 to 500 years.
