Letter to the Editor: re-zoning

The views expressed here are the writer’s own and may not reflect those of White Silo Media.

Dear Editor,

We are angry to be facing a Hampshire, IL re-zoning to allow another industrial mega-site right outside our neighborhood. One that would bring hazardous materials, dirty diesel emissions, additional noise and light pollution, added semi-truck traffic, and health and safety risks, within yards of our homes.

We are angry at what this will cost us when our well water gets contaminated, when our property values drop, and when we face health issues.

We are angry the landowner is pushing for the re-zoning when the hazards won’t affect him or be in his backyard.

As a group, we will be fighting for our livelihoods at the next Planning and Zoning Commission public hearing on May 8, being held at the Hampshire Middle School at 560 S. State St. Anyone wishing to support us, is welcome.
