Adults given their own prom night at the Huntley Park District’s ‘Formal, Fancy, Fresh’ event
HUNTLEY — High school students weren’t the only ones to celebrate prom this past weekend. The Huntley Park District hosted its “Adult Prom” on April 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
According to the park district, the black-tie-themed event was intended for those 21 years of age and older. The night featured a DJ that played music from the 80s through today as well as included a cash bar and free Hors D’oeuvres for attendees to enjoy.
Those who attended the prom also got the opportunity to “keep the party going” at the post-prom party that took place at the Pinecrest Golf Club from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
The park district stated that $5 from every $50 ticket sold would be donated to the Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association (NISRA) Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that provides year-round recreation activities for people with disabilities.
Additionally, one of the Adult Prom’s sponsors, Blessed Little Kitchen, raffled off tickets to the Adult Prom to customers who donated to a “tip” jar at the local bakery.
Blessed Little Kitchen explained on its Facebook page that the donated funds were to go towards assisting Huntley High School student Madison Roberts, who is currently battling a type of cancer called T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
“Madison is a freshman at HHS and was diagnosed with T-cell ALL back in February of 2022. She has been undergoing chemo ever since, and has quite a while left with treatments,” stated Blessed Little Kitchen on Facebook. “As you can imagine, a diagnosis like this can be financially devastating on a family so we want to help.”
Pin it Party Décor, another Adult Prom sponsor, also donated raffle tickets to assist the fundraising efforts for Roberts.
Following the event, the Huntley Park District announced that they were able to raise over $400 from ticket sales that will be given to NISRA.
The park district added that while they did not choose an Adult Prom king and queen as is the norm at high school proms, it may be something they will do at a future Adult Prom they host.
