Yorkville man struck by a train in Geneva
GENEVA — On May 12, the Kane County Coroner’s Office released information regarding a call they received on May 5 involving a death at the train station located on Third Street.
According to authorities, the male subject had been struck by a train and was later identified as 49-year-old Douglas Johnson of Yorkville.
Johnson was transported to the Kane County Morgue where an external examination was performed on May 8. The preliminary cause of death was determined to be due to multiple injuries.
Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic lab for analysis.
In his obituary, Johnson was described as a loving husband, father of four children and a “star attraction for his family and friends.”
“Doug was the first to stop and help anyone in need, wore his heart on his sleeve, and made everyone around him feel safe because he always, always had your back. He found friends around every corner of every street and many times in other countries,” read Johnson’s obituary. “If he didn’t make you his friend and make you laugh till it hurt by the end of the hour, he wasn’t doing his job.”
The Kane County Coroner’s Office is working with the Geneva Police Department and Union Pacific Railroad in the ongoing investigation of Johnson’s death.
A memorial visitation is expected to take place on May 16 at the Conley Funeral Home located at 116 W Pierce Street in Elburn.
