
‘Cop on a Rooftop’ highlights Special Olympics Day
HUNTLEY — The Huntley Police Department will participate in a morning of fund-raising activities on behalf of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois May 19.
The Cop on a Rooftop will take place at the two Huntley Dunkin locations, 12090 Princeton Drive and 9800 Route 47 from 5 a.m. to noon. For the 20th year, the police department will participate in the Cop on a Rooftop in order to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Illinois.
On the ground, a variety of officers and community members will be collecting donations, selling 2023 Law Enforcement Torch Run merchandise and spending time with Special Olympics Athletes. Huntley Community Radio will be broadcasting from the Princeton location from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., according to a Huntley Police Department press release.
The seventh annual doughnut-eating contest at noon at the Princeton location. Participants will include members of the Huntley Police Department, Public Works, Village of Huntley, Huntley Community Radio, Huntley Community School District 158, Huntley Fire Protection District, Huntley Park District, Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce, Southeast Emergency Communications(SEECOM)and St. Mary Catholic Church. Huntley Police Sergeant Scott Sullivan won the contest last year.
Everyone who donates to Special Olympics Illinois will receive a coupon for a free doughnut. The first 75 people to donate $10 or more will receive a Dunkin doughnut coffee mug.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the single largest year-round fundraising event benefiting Special Olympics Illinois. Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and competition in 18 sports for more than 21,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and nearly 9,000 young athletes ages 2-7 with and without intellectual disabilities throughout the state. Special Olympics transforms the lives of people with intellectual disabilities through training and competition.
Algonquin ‘Cop on the Rooftop’
Join the Algonquin Police Department at any of the three Dunkin locations to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics of Illinois May 19. Officers will be selling t5he 2023 edition of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois merchandise t-shirts, hats and mugs. The Algonquin Dunkin’ locations are: west, 4005 Algonquin Road; Randall Road, 1469 S. Randall Road, the BP station and east, 1319 E. Algonquin Road.
