Red Raiders keep boys lacrosse FVC trophy
HUNTLEY — Huntley boys lacrosse coach Dominic Saccomanno had a good message to share before sharing the Fox Valley Conference championship trophy with his team.
“That is three straight years without a single defeat in the FVC,” Saccomanno said.
The Red Raiders dismissed Crystal Lake South, 17-4, May 17 for an 8-0 league record.
“Obviously it is what we wanted to do and the players worked really hard for it – it was a big goal,” Saccomanno said. “It’s good to see their hard work rewarded.”
Senior Ben Wiley got into the scoring column with a late game goal.
“It was my second,” Wiley said with a smile. “This is the cherry on top. We want to go one step farther than last season beyond the super-sectional.”
Saccomanno credited senior Justin Jacobsen with getting the team off to a good start. “He always seems to score the first goal. In our 18 games, he has scored the first goal in 16 of them.”
The Red Raiders will face Grant for the second round clash at 7:15 p.m. May 22 at HHS. Grayslake North will host the final two rounds of sectional, May 24 and May 26. Huntley beat Grant in non-conference play.
“I think Lakes could be a tough team, they have a couple of D-1 players on offense,” Saccomanno said.
