Ready for repeat, boys lacrosse advances
HUNTLEY — Huntley’s boys lacrosse team advanced to the sectional final for the second straight season.
The Red Raiders, 16-4 overall, moved to the round two wins from the state finals with an 18-11 win over Lakes and an earlier 22-3 victory over Grant. Fox Valley Conference rival Prairie Ridge was the next hurdle May 26 in the Grayslake North sectional final.
Huntley was seeking to match last season’s advancement to the super sectional. This season’s super sectional is at HHS on May 30.
Win over Grant
HHS had a check list of items it wished to accomplish when it blasted Grant in the first round of the Grayslake North Sectional May 22.
“We were firing on all cylinders. We also wanted to improve our communication at both the offensive and defensive sides,” Huntley coach Dominic Saccomanno said. “I think that match was the best we have communicated all year. We were able to run a lot of our offenses and defenses so anyone scouting us would not be able to focus on one or two guys.”
The offense was ready to build up a huge lead early and did so on the strength of six goals from senior Connor Ardell and six from ‘junior Nico Andrews. Several other Red Raiders’ shots found the Grant goal.
“We were tenacious for sure,” Ardell said. “This is a different mind-set in the second season.”
