Girls lacrosse made progress, end above .500
HUNTLEY — The Huntley girls lacrosse team rose to the challenges and posted an above .500 season at 11-10 this season.
The Red Raiders’ post-season hopes were dashed by Barrington, 9-5, at the Huntley sectional May 22. Five players – Katie Ferrara, Ally Schneider, Leah Holmberg and Ashley Zolen, tallied goals. Head coach Joe Domka reflected on the season and the team’s leaders.
“Ferrara has had her best statistical career as of yet, with 67 goals, 31 assists, 62 ground balls and 41 caused turnovers,” Domka said. “Ally Schneider finished her season strong with 50 goals, up from 12 last season.”
Named all-sectional were sophomores Ferrara and goalie Savannah Stone and Schneider, a senior.
“This year we have had the most goals ever scored in our program with 275 goals,” Domka said. “We also decreased to the least amount of goals allowed in a season, to 152, while playing the hardest schedule we have had in the last six years. Our goal scorers really stepped it up this year allowing four girls to have over 35 goals on the season.”
Senior Ally Ambrogio netted 39 goals, 31 assists for 70 points while Holmberg contributed 35 goals, 24 assists for 59 points. Zolen had 19 goals, 16 assists for 35 points and Leah Hiller notched 11 goals, 16 assists, 37 points.
“Our defense has been the best it has ever been and that shows with the least amount of goals allowed,” Domka said. “Stone has been amazing to watch and grow over the season and we are very excited to see what next year brings for her.”
