D158 announces new head boys basketball coach at Huntley High School
HUNTLEY — In a press release by Huntley Community School District 158 Director of Communications and Public Relations Alex LeMoine, it was announced that the district has named Collin Kalamatas as the new head boys basketball coach at Huntley High School.
This new update to the boys basketball team will become effective pending the approval of the Board of Education (BOE) at the next BOE meeting.
According to LeMoine, Kalamatas has been a physical education teacher at D158 for the past 13 years and has additionally served as a coach in multiple capacities in the district.
Kalamatas, who is a former Huntley High School student, began his teaching career after graduation over a decade ago. His first role was as a physical education (P.E.) teacher at Marlowe Middle School. After six years, Kalamatas moved to Huntley High School where he began teaching P.E. for the past seven years.
As of current, Kalamatas serves as the high school’s head boys golf coach and has previously served as an assistant boys basketball coach.
LeMoine added that for the past four years, Kalamatas gained experience serving as the head girls basketball coach at Burlington Central, where he led the team to three consecutive regional championships.
“Mr. Kalamatas has been a valued member of our team here at HHS for many years and we are so excited to see his impact on our students and their success grow,” said Huntley High School Principal Dr. Marcus Belin. “Collin’s passion for our students, his previous coaching experience, and his pride in the Red Raider community make him the ideal candidate to take over as head coach.”
Kalamatas says he has envisioned serving as head basketball coach for several years due to being an assistant coach in the program and having developed key relationships with the players. He has seen firsthand what it takes to establish a successful program.
“I am so excited to be able to continue to serve HHS in this new capacity as head basketball coach,” said Kalamatas. “As a former student, teacher, and coach in Huntley 158, I know how impactful the experience as a high school athlete can be. I hope to bring our players and coaches together to create a successful team and a group of well-rounded teammates.”
The new head boys basketball coach and his wife, Jennifer, live in Huntley, which enables them to remain connected to the community where they both grew up. The husband-and-wife pair both graduated from Huntley High School in 2005 and 2006, respectively and plan to see their children one day do the same.
Kalamatas’ son, Calvin, currently attends Chesak Elementary School, and his daughter, Addy, is set to begin Kindergarten in the fall of 2024.
Many of Kalamatas’ extended family also live in the community and attend D158 schools, stated LeMoine.
