
Half-dozen Red Raiders earn All-FVC honors
HUNTLEY — Six Huntley High School baseball players were named All-Fox Valley Conference. Red Raiders who received the honor were seniors pitcher Andrew Ressler, catcher Ryan Bakes, outfielder Brayden Bakes, second baseman Ryan Quinlan, outfielder Joey Garlin and sophomore third baseman AJ Putty.
The group of Huntley leaders showed the way in several regular season statistics. Quinlan finished with a 0.437 batting average, 45 hits, 30 RBIs and three home runs. Garlin ended with a 0.432 batting average, 54 hits and 36 RBIs. Ryan Bakes, concluded at 0.406 batting average, 43 hits, 13 home runs and 37 RBIs. Brayden Bakes had a 0.394 batting average, 43 hits, 10 home runs and 36 RBIs.
Putty contributed a 0.390 batting average, 39 hits, six home runs and 36 RBIs.
Ressler was the pitching ace with nine total wins, 65 strikeouts and 58 innings pitched as the team’s best in all three categories. He contributed a no-hitter in the Red Raiders’ 3-0 regional final win over Hampshire May 27.
Huntley ended the 2023 season with a 29-8 record, 14-4 and champions in the FVC and won the Hampshire regional championship.
Milestone victories included head coach Andy Jakubowski’s 400th career win at HHS and 500th overall. His all-time record is 514-323 and 419-208 leading the Red Raiders.
HHS alums help Heartland
A trio of Red Raiders alumni, hitting coach Tyler Albright, and sophomore Jake Jakubowski, son of head coach Andy Jakubowski and freshman Mike Vitellaro were part of Heartland Community College’s NJCAA National Championship squad. The school located in Normal downed Southeastern Community College of Iowa, 8-6, in the title game.
