Family of man killed in Elburn rollover crash hope to raise funds for funeral expenses
ELBURN — The family of a South Bend, Indiana man are mourning his death after he and a female occupant were found deceased after being ejected from a vehicle in a rollover crash that took place in Elburn in the early hours of June 18.
On June 21, the Kane County Coroner’s Office identified 34-year-old Tomas Vargas Jr. and 29-year-old Adriana Marquez, both of South Bend, Indiana, as the two individuals who were found laying in different locations in a farm field near the area of North Main Street and Walker Drive.
According to authorities, at approximately 2:56 a.m., the Elburn Police Department responded to a call regarding a possible transformer or field fire. Upon arrival at the scene, a damaged ComEd power pole and a small fire were discovered.
A further investigation revealed that the wooden power pole had been struck by a vehicle that was being driven by Vargas Jr. and Marquez. Their severely damaged 2004 Honda Pilot was located in the farm field adjacent to where the accident had occurred.
Police officers stated that the vehicle was traveling southbound on Route 47 and appeared to have rolled over multiple times after having struck the power pole. Vargas Jr. and Marquez were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Autopsies were performed on the two individuals on June 20, where the preliminary cause of death was determined to be caused by multiple injuries due to the automobile crash, according to the Kane County Coroner’s Office.
Toxicology samples were collected at the time of the autopsies and were sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis. The Elburn Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
Following the news of the accident, Vargas Jr.’s family set up a GoFundMe in hopes of raising money to assist in paying for funeral expenses.
“As many may know, we lost Tomas very unexpectedly [on] Father’s Day morning, June 18. If you knew him or know anyone in his family, you know they’re very family-oriented and community-driven. He leaves behind his two sons, TI and G’Angelo,” wrote Cami Corle, the organizer who created the GoFundMe on behalf of Vargas Jr.’s family. “Tomas has devoted himself to coaching soccer for many years. He’s always been willing to give whatever he can even if he didn’t have a lot himself. [He was] always there for anyone who needs him. [He] has shown endless love in any way and amount he could offer.”
Vargas Jr.’s family hope to lay him to rest alongside his sister, Sonia Ramirez, who passed away back in 2015.
It appeared that Marquez was in a relationship with Vargas Jr.
Those interested in donating to Vargas Jr.’s GoFundMe can do so by visiting gofund.me/d6a91d8d. As of June 21, over $200 of the initial $6,000 goal has been raised.
