Increase in overdose deaths at local motel prompt McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office to call for increased security measures
FOX RIVER GROVE — In recent years, an unfortunate series of overdose deaths have been reported at the River Inn Motel located at 1000 Northwest Highway.
The increase in these incidents led the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office to begin collaboration efforts with the Fox River Grove Police Department to jointly investigate the deaths and address the concerns surrounding the River Inn Motel.
The two agencies have worked diligently to implement crucial security measures that prioritize the safety of all individuals within the establishment and nearby premises, stated McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally.
Having recognized the severity of the trend in overdose deaths at the motel, the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office notified the business of its intent to file a lawsuit seeking to declare it a nuisance unless specific security modifications were made.
According to Kenneally, the River Inn Motel promptly responded and implemented the recommended security changes, which proved effective in improving the overall safety of the premises.
Despite the increase in security measures, in early 2023, another devastating overdose death occurred at the motel. In response to the most recent incident, the River Inn Motel collaborated with the State’s Attorney’s Office by committing to additional security protocols.
The updated security measures included the installation of additional, high-resolution cameras and extended retention of all camera footage.
“With the enhancement of security infrastructure, the establishment aims to deter illicit activities and create a more secure environment,” said Kenneally in a press release statement.
Kenneally has been at the forefront of the war on opioids and other drugs, making it a top priority of his office. He recognized the dedication and cooperation demonstrated by the motel and additionally expressed his sincere appreciation to the motel’s management for their dedication to public safety.
“The partnership underscores the shared commitment to maintaining a secure and welcoming community,” said Kenneally.
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office also acknowledges the hard work and dedication of the Fox River Grove Police Department in their collaborative efforts to ensure the safety of all individuals, particularly within the premises of the River Inn Motel.
