16-year-old causes one fatality in Kane County after veering into the wrong lane of traffic
BIG ROCK TOWNSHIP — On July 8 at approximately 8:52 a.m., Kane County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to an accident in the area of Galena Street (Route 30) and Jefferson Avenue.
According to authorities, a 2016 black Toyota Tacoma pickup truck left the eastbound lane of traffic for unknown reasons and struck a 2022 white F150 Ford pickup truck head-on, which resulted in critical injuries being reported.
Both vehicles, upon initial investigation efforts, were discovered to have contained only the drivers as the sole occupants.
Due to the ongoing investigation, law enforcement only identified the 16-year-old male driver of the Toyota Tacoma as F. Kosakiewicz of Lockport.
The driver of the F150 Ford pickup truck was later identified as 57-year-old James Lynch of the 5400 block of Archer Avenue in Chicago.
Following the accident, both drivers were transported to Ascension Mercy Hospital in Aurora. Kosakiewicz was reported to be in stable condition as of July 10 and has since been released from the hospital.
Lynch, however, was pronounced deceased upon his arrival at the hospital. The families of both individuals were notified of the crash and the ongoing investigation.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office states that there is still a pending investigation to see if alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash, and potential charges may still be forthcoming.
It was also added that it has yet to be determined if speed was a contributing factor associated with the crash. The Kane County Sheriff’s Office is still working on the accident reconstruction of the scene.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Sugar Grove Police Department, the Kane County Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the Kane County Investigations Division, the Kane County Drone Unit, the Big Rock Fire Department, and the Sugar Grove Fire Department.
