Monson thrilled with state-wide honor
HUNTLEY – Huntley’s girls track and field Class 3A state championship squad garnered another honor.
Head Coach Jason Monson won a State Girls Track Coach of the Year award announced by U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCA). USTFFA announced state coach of the year winners for each state July 11. The organization includes collegiate and high school ranks.
The Red Raiders won the Class 3A Girls Track and Field State Championship with a 62.5 point total to Prospect’s 52. The state title followed the girls softball squad’s 2019 championship.
Monson commented on the honor.
“I’m incredibly proud of the recognition,” Monson said. “Our girls and coaching staff put in a ton of work this season. There are a lot of people who played a part. I’m so blessed to be surrounded by great coaches, great supportive parents and an incredible group of female athletes.”
The Red Raiders’ second state title in school history was led by championships from Alex Johnson in the long jump; Dominique Johnson for the triple jump and Ally Panzloff in the discus throw. The Johnson sisters were also on the 4×100 relay which was second and the 4×200 relay which was third. K’Leigh Saenz and Vicky Evtimov were also contributing relay members. Breanna Burak contributed fifth place in the 3,200 meters.
HHS Athletic Director Glen Wilson congratulated Monson for the award.
“We are incredibly proud coach Monson and his USTFCCA honor as coach of the year in Illinois for girls track and field. He and his staff work incredibly hard and are dedicated to their student athletes. In turn, student athletes in his program are engaged and dedicated to getting better each day on and off the track,” Wilson said.
