
Christmas in July fun held at market
HUNTLEY — Christmas songs were played on the speaker as the Huntley Farmer’s Market celebrated “Christmas in July” on July 22. Santa Claus was assisted in greeting by local helpers Penny and Harris Shaw of Huntley.
Farmers the and vendors participate in the Farmers Market at the Huntley Town Square Saturdays from 8 s.m. – 1 p.m.
“We’re here every Saturday and really enjoy the coming here,” Marcy Prchal owner of Trogg’s Hollow of Poplar Grove said. She and husband Trogg own the farm. They said kale is among the late-July crops.
Another weekly farmer here is Mark McRinnis, owner of Sleepy Hollow Fresh. “I have a 2,000 square foot garden,” he said. “Now, romaine lettuce and beets are big.”
Maja Family Foods of Fox Lake offers baked goods. “I learned cooking from my mother and grandmothers, using real butter,” Maja Steele said.
Two of the younger participants, Crosby Hanna and Aubrey Renko, of Huntley, sold earrings and bracelets they made for a recent market.
The Farmers Markets are offered through October at Huntley Town Square.
