
Area police departments are preparing to offer National Night Out (NNO) events during the first week in August
HUNTLEY — The Huntley Police Department NNO will take place from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 1 at Huntley Town Square. Earlier, there is a police and fire department softball game at 2 p.m. The site is the Del Webb Sun City softball field. Events are also part of Enjoy Huntley Week.
“The Huntley Police Department is proud of the strong connection we have with our community,” Deputy Chief Linda Hooten said in a press release statement. “National Night Out is a great opportunity for us to celebrate this positive relationship. Residents can interact with police and fire department vehicles and equipment will be on display. Come play games with officers, pose in our photo booth, or brush up on your safety tips with a scavenger hunt around the square. Residents can enjoy our beautiful downtown square and meet their neighbors and police officers.”
The Algonquin Police Department NNO will also be on Aug. 1, from 6-8 p.m., at Old Town Park near Main Street. There will be a chance to see police and fire department vehicles, enjoy music and games.
Lake in the Hills’ Police Department’s NNO will take place Saturday, Aug. 5 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. It will be held at the Ivy Floress Safety Education Center, located at 1109 Crystal Lake Road.
“The police department invites everyone to come together as one united community at this free family friendly event to stand together against crime. Lake in the Hills police officers, public works, parks and recreation, village officials, firefighters and many supporting community partners from all over the area will be in attendance,” a LITH press release statement announced.
The LITH event is expected to include a live K-9 demonstration by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. Also, there is a scheduled LifeNet Air Medical helicopter landing, peek inside, meet the pilot and medical crew. There will be various types of police, fire department, SWAT, incident command vehicles, a police car robot and attendees may try DUI fatal vision impairment goggles. One may talk with police traffic units, recruiters, and learn resources for police department officers.
There will be free hot dogs, chips and pop provided along with activities for children.

This is the 39th anniversary year of NNO nationally, and about 200 communities in Illinois will take part. NNO began in Philadelphia in 1984.
