Nitz gains 2nd runner-up for Red Raiders
HUNTLEY — The Huntley cross country teams ventured out of the area for the first time and the girls squad finished fourth while the boys were fifth at St. Charles East’s course Sept. 2.
“Saturday our goal was to make improvements from the county meet in terms of our team racing together,” Red Raiders head coach Matt Kaplan said. “Both boys and girls field of teams were some great competition. Our girls taking fourth overall was a great effort against some of the best teams in Illinois. The boys weren’t at full strength on the varsity level. We had a goal of our other runners stepping up to see what we could do while we move forward.”
At the varsity level, Tommy Nitz, finished second and Zach Zuzzio, eighth, both ran to top 10 finishes. On the girls side, Haley Rahman finished 10th overall to lead the girls team.
Nitz was runner-up for the second straight meet, as he clocked a 15:17.80 to Trey Sato of Grayslake Central, 15:14.60. Zuzzio, a senior, was 10th in 15:45.00. Andrew Raistrick and Brandon Thompson both finished in the top 30, with times of 16:39.60 and 16:45.00.
“Week to week, our team made solid gains and we’ll continue to learn from each meet moving on to the next one,” Kaplan said.
