Boys golf wins 2 FVC matches
HUNTLEY — Huntley’s boys golf team is off to a 2-2 record in the Fox Valley Conference season.
The Red Raiders defeated McHenry, 167-178 at McHenry Country Club Sept. 6. Nooa Hakala shot a 38 score and Tyler Lodewyck was next at 42, while Nathan Elm had a 43 and Sam Locascio contributed a 44.
“Nooa Hakala had a great round,” HHS boys head golf coach Collin Kalamatas said. “It’s a tough course where you really need to be solid all the way through the (golf) bag and Hakala did just that. He avoided any big numbers and put together a nice round. Lodewyck was also really solid. He played one of his better nine hole rounds of the year. It’s always nice to get contributions from all over the lineup card.”
Kalamatas commented on how the season has gone so far.
“So far we have gotten some great contributions from some of our team leaders like Elm, Hakala, Locascio and Taig Bhathal,” the coach said. “Unfortunately, we haven’t had our whole lineup together much, with Hakala missing the beginning of the year and Bhathal being out recently (illness). So, it’s been important for the rest of the team to use our depth to stay competitive in our league.”
The FVC will have some competitive matches.
“We had a tight week last week with Cary-Grove (lost by one stroke) and Crystal Lake Central(won by four),” Kalamatas said. “It feels like we are going to have a bunch of close matches this year in our conference. There are a lot of teams than can beat each other on any given night. The conference this year is as wide open as it has been in a long time. It should make for some fun matches down the stretch.”
