
Chicago man arrested after attempting to abduct a child in Elgin
ELGIN — On Sept. 8 at approximately 1:55 p.m., officers from the Elgin Police Department were dispatched to the 1300 block of Amanda Circle for a report of a parental child abduction.
At the time of the incident, information was provided to law enforcement regarding an almost two-year-old child who was taken in a vehicle.
Detectives continued to investigate the abduction until the suspect involved in the incident was located and taken into custody in Chicago.
The child was located and safely reunited with his mother, stated the Elgin Police Department.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office charged 34-year-old Kenneth “Kenny” Hayes of the 400 block of N. Saint Luis Avenue in Chicago with the following offenses:
One count of robbery, a Class 2 felony; one count of child abduction which violated a court order, a Class 4 felony; one count of aggravated fleeing and eluding, a Class 4 felony; one count of violation of an order of protection, a Class A misdemeanor; two counts of domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor; and one count of child endangerment, a Class A misdemeanor.
Hayes appeared in a Kane County bond call on Sept. 9, where his bail was set at $200,000 with 10% ($20,000) to apply for bond. He is currently being detained at the Kane County Adult Justice Center in St. Charles until his next court appearance, which will take place on Sept. 20 in Courtroom 311 of the Kane County Judicial Center.
