Girls golf gains 3rd at county
HUNTLEY – The Huntley girls golf team will bring momentum to the Fox Valley Conference meet after a third place showing at the Anne Christensen McHenry County meet and two more dual match wins.
The county tournament is named for the retired HHS girls golf coach Christensen, who led the program for 14 years. The FVC tournament is Sept. 20-21 at Crystal Woods Country Club.
Senior Aubrey Dingbaum led HHS at the county meet at Bull Valley Sept. 14 with an 82 score for fifth place and junior Maddie Sloan shot a 90 for 10th in the 18-hole format. Also, freshman Kinsey Hayes had an 98; Maddie Lackovic a 99; Taryn Rainey shot 107 and Kaitlyn Busky 109.
“I worked a lot on putting and chipping and our coaches make it a priority,” Dingbaum said. She played summer circuits in both Illinois Junior Golf and McHenry County Junior Golf tournaments.
The Red Raiders ended third in the nine-team meet with a 369 team score, behind Crystal Lake Central co-op and McHenry.
The Red Raiders secured a 6-0 mark and top seed in the FVC meet with a 184-194 win over Dundee-Crown Sept. 13.
“We’ve improved a lot,” HHS coach Lindsay Allen said. “Our team has a lot of depth, if someone has a bad round, our fifth our sixth golfers can help. D-C was a good team and to grind out a win on senior night, I was pleased. The seniors have shown great leadership.”
Dingbaum led the way against the Chargers as she shot a 43. Sloan had a 44 while Lakovic had a 48 and Annie Garrard a 50.
Senior night
Three seniors – Dingbaum, Lackovic and Busky were honored Sept. 11, when the team downed Jacobs 189-209. Dingbaum led the way with a 36, followed by Busky’s 47, Lackovic’s 50 and Hayes’ 56.
Allen commented on the seniors trio.
“Dingbaum has been our leading scorer, and a great role model for our younger girls on the effort and time it takes to be a great golfer. Busky is a very dedicated golfer. She has an amazing personality. She always comes ready to play with a huge smile on her face. Lackovic has made great strides this season as far as improving her game. She is also hilarious and always keeps the girls having fun,” Allen said.
