Golfers Dingbaum, Sloan set for sectional play
HUNTLEY — Advancing to compete at the Class 2A Girls Golf Sectional back home in Huntley was the goal for the Red Raiders squad at the Harlem Regional meet at Atwood Homestead Golf Course.
Senior Aubrey Dingbaum and junior Maddie Sloan advanced from the regional to the Burlington Central Sectional Oct. 2 at Whisper Creek Golf Course in Huntley. Dingbaum shot a 94 while Sloan had a 96 Sept. 28.
“I was very proud of them for grinding it out when conditions were tough,” HHS coach Lindsey Allen said of Dingbaum and Sloan. “They both made some clutch putts as well.”
The Red Raiders are looking forward to the sectional course back home.
“We will definitely go in with an advantage being more familiar with the course,” Allen said. “Both Dingbaum and Sloan have played Whisper Creek several times in their career and are ready to play on Monday.”
Huntley almost had a third golfer qualify but senior Kaitlyn Busky missed by one shot with a 99.
“She did so well,” Allen said of Busky. “We waited until the very end to see if she would advance. It was sad to see she did not make it, but I am so proud of her effort She has improved so much this season.”
The Class 2A Girls Golf State Tournament is Oct. 6-7 in Decatur.
The Red Raiders concluding their seasons at regional were also, Maddie Lackovic, who shot 103; Kinsey Hayes, 107 and Annie Garrard, 117.
Allen commented on that group’s efforts this season.
“Hayes, our lone freshman on varsity, had an amazing season,” Allen said. “With a score of 54, 53, we are so proud of her. She is an exciting future for our program. Lackovic has been an integral part of our team this season. She has improved greatly, and we wish her well as she heads to college. Garrard will be one of our seniors next season. She has dedicated so much time to the team and we are excited to see her lead it next season.”
