Red Raiders net win in 2 overtime clashes
HUNTLEY — Huntley’s boys soccer team battled in back-to-back overtime matches in Fox Valley Conference action but had to settle for a split.
A 2-1 overtime win at Crystal Lake Central Sept. 30 was followed by a 1-0 loss to Cary-Grove Oct. 3. HHS fell to 11-5-1, 6-1 in the FVC and a first place tie with Crystal Lake South.

A more determined Huntley boys soccer team came out from a tie with Crystal Lake Central ready for the first overtime session. Then Huntley senior Gavin Eagan finished the match with a goal off an assist from Anthony Aweve for a 2-1 win after an 88-minute battle.
“We just stepped it up because it had been unacceptable,” Eagan, a midfielder, said. “I saw Aweve on the run and knew I would get a pass. I just had to tap it in.”
The Huntley squad looked like it was going to have a mid-first half goal by senior Talon Sargent, his seventh, off an assist from Nielsen, stand up. But the Tigers tallied with five minutes left in regulation.
“He is always in the right place at the right time and gets the job done,” head coach Matt Lewandowski said of Sargent.
For Sargent, this fall s a doubleheader fall as he is also a kicker on the football team. He made five of six point after touchdown tries against Crystal Lake South in a 54-43 win the night before. “In football, I mostly cheer the team on and bring energy,” he said.
Despite the early lead, Huntley could not put the game away.
“They’re a tough team and do a good job of creating chances,” Lewandowski said. “It was hard for us to come back after Thursday (a 4-2 win over Crystal Lake South) and the adrenaline may have been hard for a Saturday morning match.”
Senior goalie Jack Bakey was again solid with seven saves.
“It feels good when you have someone like Bakey, and before an injury, Ethan Robertson, back there in goal,” Lewandowski said.

The Trojans came to Huntley with just one win but pulled off the upset for a 2-3-2 league mark.
It was scoreless through regulation and the first four minutes of overtime until senior Trojan Ian Frangimore scored from long range.
