Boys soccer ready for FVC title night
HUNTLEY — Huntley’s boys soccer team bounced back well from an upset loss and were able to gain two victories going into the final regular season week.
The Red Raiders posted a 4-1 triumph at Dundee-Crown Oct. 5 for a 7-1 Fox Valley Conference record. They are tied with Crystal Lake South for the league’s lead with only a game with Burlington Central Oct. 10 remaining. The Red Raiders’ lone FVC loss was an 1-0 overtime defeat to Cary-Grove Oct. 3.
“The guys knew they needed a bounce back performance to stay in the running for FVC Championship,” HHS coach Matt Lewandowski said of the D-C match. ”They put three goals in the net in four minutes at the end of the first half, which is incredible.”
Against the Chargers, Kyle Paler scored the first goal, followed by Adrian Herrera and Max Connell. Assists were from Connell and two by Jack Breunig. Anthony Aweve added a second half goal on an assist by Elias Ramon. Jack Bakey played all 80 minutes in goal and made four saves.
The Red Raiders were up to the challenge against the Broncos. Hudson Nielsen scored early in the first half off an assist from Breunig. Isaac Jacobo tallied the match winner off from Mason Leslie’s assist. Jeremiah Reynolds made three saves and Bakey had five.
“I feel like any win against Barrington in any sport is a great result,” Lewandowski said. “They have a strong pedigree of success over there and are always tough competitors whether they’re having a good season or bad season.”
The FVC Championship comes down to Tuesday’s battles.
“The guys are feeling good about Tuesday,” Lewandowski said. “They’re excited and feel like they’re on track with the last two wins. Hopefully Jacobs can upset CLS, they’ve been playing really well lately.”
