Various local law enforcement agencies send their best wishes to Kane County Sheriff’s deputy critically injured in an accident
KANE COUNTY — On Oct. 23, at approximately 6:56 a.m., the Kane County Sheriff’s Office released information regarding an on-duty sheriff’s deputy who was involved in a severe car crash on Route 47, just south of Plank Road in Hampshire Township.
The sheriff’s deputy, later identified as 33-year-old Brian Anderson, was traveling southbound on Route 47 when his Dodge Durango squad car was struck head-on by a Dually Dodge 5500 pickup truck with an attached loaded trailer.
According to the initial investigation, the Dually Dodge was heading northbound on Route 47 when it attempted to stop in traffic. The Dually Dodge then came into oncoming traffic where it struck Anderson’s squad car.
In an update from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, it was revealed that the driver of the Dually Dodge, Indalecio Munoz of the 1100 block of Madison Boulevard in Marseilles, and two other occupants of the vehicle were transported to Ascension St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elgin with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Illinois State Police, who assisted with the accident, did not provide further information on the passengers of the pickup truck.
Anderson, the sole occupant of the squad car, was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. He is reported to be in stable but critical condition with multiple leg fractures sustained.
Before joining the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, Anderson served at both the Arlington Heights Police Department for over three years and at the Lake in the Hills Police Department for five years.
In 2019, Anderson and two other individuals were recipients of the Lake in the Hills Police Department’s “Chief’s Award for Saving a Human Life,” for their help in assisting a victim after her vehicle was submerged in a retention pond.
Anderson and Lake in the Hills Police Sergeant Matthew Mannino were also nominated that year for the McHenry County Chiefs of Police Association’s Officer of the Year Award.
Many local law enforcement agencies, including the Huntley Police Department, have taken to social media to send their best wishes to Anderson for a speedy recovery.
The Northbrook Police Department, while not located in Kane County, also took to Facebook to send their “thoughts and prayers,” as Anderson’s brother, Don, serves as a sergeant there.
The Illinois State Police are currently in charge of the investigation and have yet to determine if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash. There have been no further updates released as to whether charges will be made.
