
Update: Cousins face murder charges for the shooting death of a 17-year-old Carpentersville resident
CARPENTERSVILLE—Following the Oct. 25 shooting incident which left a 17-year-old male deceased, Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser and Carpentersville Police Chief Todd Shaver jointly announced on Nov. 1, that cousins Alan U. Medina, 19, of Pecos Circle in Carpentersville, and 16-year-old Jimmy Media, of Ensenada Drive in Carpentersville, were both being charged with several felony offenses concerning the crime.
Mosser alleges that during the evening of Oct. 25, Alan was driving his vehicle while Jimmy rode in the passenger seat. As they approached the vicinity of the 1-99 block of Robin Road, one or both cousins fired multiple shots from a handgun in the direction of another vehicle containing multiple individuals.
A 17-year-old male was subsequently struck in the head by a bullet and died at 11:48 p.m. that night at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin. The 17-year-old was later identified as Anthony R. Aragon Jr. by the Kane County Coroner’s Office.
An autopsy was performed on Oct. 27, where the preliminary cause of death was determined to be due to a gunshot wound. Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic lab for analysis.
A second victim was struck by a bullet and is continuing to recover. A third victim was grazed by a bullet and was treated for the wound at a local hospital where they were later released. Two other individuals in the vehicle were uninjured, according to Mosser.
Alan was detained and will remain in custody until further orders of the court. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 15, at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 313 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
Jimmy is currently in custody at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center awaiting a first appearance hearing, which is scheduled to take place on Nov. 3, at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 313 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
Both suspects were charged as follows:
Two counts of first-degree murder; two counts of attempted first-degree murder, Class X felonies; two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, Class X felonies; two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, Class 1 felonies; and one count of possession of a firearm while being ineligible for a FOID (Firearm Owners Identification) card, a Class 3 felony.
