D158 BOE selects Dana Wiley to fill vacant board member position
HUNTLEY — Following a special board meeting that took place on Nov. 2, the Huntley Community School District 158 (D158) Board of Education (BOE) announced that they had selected Dana Wiley as the individual set to fill the vacant board seat left by Gina Galligar who resigned back in September, according to Director of Communications and Public Engagement for the district Denise Barr.
In an Oct. 16 message to D158 staff and families, BOE President Andy Bittman revealed that nine applications for the vacancy were submitted to the BOE.
The applicants included Rich Bobby, Autumn Bozza, Jill Cataldo, Heather Hoffman, Stephen Lulofs, Andrew Martin, Kate Policheri, Charles Ruth, and Wiley. Candidates for the position were interviewed by the BOE during the closed session portion of a special board meeting that took place on Oct. 23.
Three of the nine candidates were asked to return for a final interview during the closed session of the regular Nov. 2 BOE meeting.
“Ms. Wiley is a Huntley 158 parent with a background in business leadership and project management in the insurance and IT industries,” said Barr in a press release statement. “She is currently working as a proposal manager for a software development firm.”
Over the past 15 years, Wiley has been actively involved in D158 and the community by serving on the Chesak-Martin PTA (Parent Teacher Association) for eight years as well as being involved on various district committees including the strategic planning committee, elementary parent advisory committee, and the dual language committee.
In addition, Wiley volunteers through her church and youth sports programs. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from DePaul University.
“I am honored to have been selected from an extremely qualified group of applicants for this important role,” said Wiley. “I appreciate the time the board took to interview all the candidates and make this decision and look forward to working with the entire board, our staff and administrators, students, and our community, to continue making D158 an outstanding district.”
Wiley previously ran for a position on the BOE with other newcomers in the 2021 consolidated elections but lost to the four incumbent candidates running for reelection at the time.
“The board was extremely pleased by the number of qualified candidates who expressed interest in serving on the board and we appreciate their efforts and participation throughout this process, said Bittman. “We look forward to the future contributions of Ms. Wiley, whose broad experience, visibility in the community, and passion for the district will serve us well.”
Wiley will be sworn in at the regular BOE meeting on Nov. 9 to begin her tenure on the board. Her term will run through the spring of 2025.
