Huntley girls keep FVC wins coming
HUNTLEY — It’s so far, so good and a long Fox Valley Conference winning streak kept going for Huntley’s girls basketball team.
The Red Raiders beat Cary-Grove, 34-27, Nov. 28 then topped Hampshire, 43-42, as HHS’s league win streak reached 30 games. HHS stood at 4-2, 2-0 FVC.
Huntley’s defense and rebounding strengths set the pace against the Trojans.
“I thought our team played extremely hard in our win against Cary-Grove,” Red Raiders head coach Steve Raethz said. “We defended really well and that contributed to helping us win the game.”
Junior forward Paula Strzelecki contributed 12 rebounds against C-G, with six points, three blocked shots and two steals. She was averaging 7 points per game, 7.8 rebounds, and two blocked shots, steals and assists.
“Strzelecki and Yasmine Morsy both did a good job on their inside players. We only allowed one field goal in the second half as we were able to extend the lead after halftime,” Raethz said.
Newcomers sophomore Aubrina Adamik and lone varsity freshman Alyssa Borzych contributed key hoops. “Adamink did a nice job and came in and made a big three to start the second half,” Raethz said.
Win over Hampshire
The Red Raiders held off the Whip-Purs, 43-42, Dec. 1. Eight three-point baskets, three from Anna Campanelli (17 points) and Cassidy Serpe (15 points) set the tone. Ava McFadden and Aubrina Adamik each added treys. It came down to the fourth quarter, and the visitors won that stanza 16-15.
Huntley will host Crystal Lake Central at 6 p.m. Dec. 8 and travel to Crystal Lake South Dec. 12 in FVC games.
