Village Board to review an ordinance approving a Mexican restaurant to operate out of former Burger King building
HUNTLEY—At the Dec. 7 Village Board meeting, petitioner Double Twin Holdings, LLC, the new owner of the property located at 12262 Route 47 (Outlot 9) of the Huntley Grove Commercial Subdivision, will present its plans to reoccupy the former 2,567 square-foot Burger King commercial building to operate a Tacos Jerez Mexican Restaurant.
The outlot was originally developed for use by Burger King, which constructed the restaurant building and installed all necessary site improvements in 2016. According to the Dec. 7 Village Board meeting agenda packet, Double Twin Holdings will not make any modifications to the 2015 Final PUD (Planned Unit Development) site plan or building elevations approved by the Village Board for the Burger King restaurant.
Tacos Jerez currently operates locations in Rolling Meadows and Elgin. The Mexican restaurant anticipates utilizing the existing dual drive-through, which will require a Special Use Permit to be approved by the board. Additionally, Double Twin Holdings indicated that they intend to apply for a liquor license at a future date.
The dual drive-through will offer one lane dedicated solely to in-car order placement, providing menu screens for on-demand item selection. The second lane will be used exclusively for call ahead, online, and mobile order pickups. This lane will not feature a menu board.
Drive-through stacking is provided for eight vehicles to the pickup window. Village staff state that the second lane will accommodate four additional vehicle staging positions. All additional stacking will be in the parking area to the west, allowing the southern one-way exit aisle to remain unobstructed.
On Nov. 13, the Plan Commission conducted a public hearing to consider the petitioner’s request. As no members of the public came forward to testify in favor or opposition to the request, the commission recommended the approval of the petition by a vote of six to zero, subject to some conditions.
“To guarantee a fast and efficient experience, Tacos Jerez will always employ two dedicated staff members with headsets. Their roles are pivotal in taking orders swiftly and ensuring that orders are prepared and dispatched accurately,” said the petitioner in their Drive Through Operations Plan. “Tacos Jerez is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to enhance the double drive-thru process…Our operational plan integrates convenience, quality, and authenticity. Through a meticulous focus on location, staffing, technology, and customer service, we’re dedicated to exceeding expectations.”
The Board of Trustees will be required to vote on a motion to approve a new Special Use Permit for Drive-Through Food Service for Tacos Jerez.
