HUNTLEY — Huntley’s girls basketball team has been clicking in all areas in the first nine games of the season.
HHS has gained a seven game win streak heading into a clash at Burlington Central Dec. 15. Huntley comes into the game in first place, 7-2, 5-0 in FVC play.
Two of the latest wins, 69-12 over Crystal Lake South Dec. 12 and 62-11 romp over Jacobs Dec. 5, have included continuous time in the fourth quarter. HHS was pushed some by Crystal Lake Central in a 57-47 win Dec. 8
“I was pleased with our collective effort especially at the defensive end, it was very solid and we had balanced scoring,” Red Raiders Coach Steve Raethz said after the win over CLS. “We shot the ball efficiently, but with us it all starts on the defensive end. The team is playing well together, all are extremely coachable and hard workers.”
Indeed, the final scoring gobbled up the Gators, as eight players contributing between six and 10 points. The Red Raiders made 18 two-pointers and totaled eight treys at CLS. All told, eight players scored between six and 10 points. Anna Campanelli led with 10, while Madison Diaz and Isabella Boskey both had two treys on eight point games. Cassidy Serpe, Aubrina Adamink and Ella Borzych added seven points each. Paula Strzelecki and Gwen Campbell pitched in six.
In the win over the Tigers, junior forward Strzelecki poured in 16 points on seven field goals. Campanelli contributed 14 points while Serpe had nine.
“I think Strzelecki has done a great job for her first year on varsity,” Raethz said.
