Boys bowlers bow out at sectional
HUNTLEY — The Huntley boys bowling team members will all return next season, but saw their 2023-24 efforts come to an end at the Rockford Jefferson IHSA Sectional Jan. 20.
Huntley totaled 5,763 pins for 12th place at Don Carter Lanes in Rockford. Junior Matthew Fishman led the Red Raiders with 1,250 total pins and a team best 254 high game which started the day. Juniors Joey Humphrey rolled a 1,191; Austin Tenglin, 1,145; freshman Noah Waters, 1,122 and junior Nick Gaspari, 882.
“I knew the boys are disappointed, and really wanted to make it down state this year,” Huntley coach Jacob Wagner said. “I believe they will be ready to compete next season. I think our main goal for next season is yet to be decided as we are still processing such a great season this year with the highest of highs and some lows as well. We will learn and grow and come back at it next year. My heart was broken for them at Sectional. They worked hard to get there and unfortunately it did not work out. We took the blow and now we can see how we can bounce back.”
Huntley won the first Kishwaukee River Conference-Fox Valley Conference championship and finished with a 14-1 overall dual record. They qualified for the sectional with a third place regional finish.
“I am unbelievably proud of these boys,” Wagner said. “I am proud every kid on this team got better this year. We have 32 boys and every single one got better this season. We have some awesome young men and I cannot wait to see what they do next year.”
Wagner added praise for the six teams that advanced from Rockford to the IHSA State Meet in O’Fallon.
“All six of the teams out of our sectional have an excellent shot of contending this year at the state tournament,” he said.
