Campanelli earns IBCA honor, 3 win All-FVC
HUNTLEY — Huntley junior Anna Campanelli was awarded All-Fox Valley Conference recognition and an Illinois Basketball Coaches Association honor.
Campanelli was named to the IBCA Class 4A basketball team’s special mention list. Campanelli, also named all-league for the second time, finished as the leading scorer with 14.1 points per game, 3.7 assists per game and 2.5 steals per game, all areas leading the Red Raiders.
“Campanelli was very deserving of the IBCA recognition and she had an outstanding season,” Red Raiders head coach Steve Raethz said. “She worked very hard to improve her game in the off-season and she really developed into a consistent scorer, especially in the second half of the season. Her ability to score at the basket, mid-range and from the three-point line made her such a dynamic offensive player.”
He added, “she is a great two-way player and she is such a versatile defender. She really stepped up in all aspects this season and she showed tremendous leadership on and off the court. We are excited to have her back next season.”
In addition to Campanelli, senior Cassidy Serpe and junior April Strzelecki were named All-FVC by league coaches. It was the first time honor for Serpe and Strzelecki. Strzelecki led the team in blocked shots, 27 total, one per game and rebounds, 181 total, 6.7 per game.
The Red Raiders finished 24-7 overall and won their third straight FVC championship with a 17-1 record.
