Not long after, authorities made contact with Diego Sandoval, 25, who was driving a vehicle that matched the description of a car that was said to have been involved in the gunfire events.
Sandoval was taken into custody without incident after a firearm was recovered from him.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Sandoval with armed violence/committing a felony with a Category I weapon, a Class X felony; aggravated unlawful use of a weapon without a FOID card, a Class 4 felony; aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/loaded firearm with no concealed carry, a Class 4 felony; aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/loaded firearm on a person, a Class 4 felony; and possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony.
Sandoval was transported to the Kane County Adult Justice Center in St. Charles on April 14, for a pre-trial detention hearing. The Elgin Police Department stated that the judge overlooking the case ordered Sandoval to be detained pending a future court date.
Despite that initial decision to keep Sandoval in custody, the Elgin Police Department posted an update that Sandoval was released from jail on April 15 following a judge’s order.
His next court appearance will occur on May 16 at 9:05 a.m. in Courtroom 305 of the Kane County Judicial Center.
