Village Board to discuss brightening up iconic Town Square gazebo
HUNTLEY — At the upcoming April 25 Village Board meeting, trustees will discuss finally refreshing the Town Square gazebo with a new paint job and floor resurfacing to protect the structure from weathering and continued wear, according to the meeting agenda packet.
The project will involve pressure washing and sealing the tongue and groove pine on the ceiling. All other wood components will be primed and painted after all loose paint is removed and any rotted wood is replaced.
Village staff state that the gazebo’s concrete floor and steps are beginning to wear with cracking and pitting in certain locations.
The concrete surfaces will receive an epoxy non-slip color coating to closely match the existing colors of the brick pavers in the Square which will improve the overall aesthetics and add protection from further cracking and pitting to prolong the life of the concrete surfaces.
The village further adds that the nearby fire bell will also be sandblasted and repainted along with the wood stand. Public Works staff will be removing and replacing the concrete slab that is currently supporting the bell.
Trustees will be presented with three color scheme options to choose from. All paint colors will be purchased from Sherwin-Williams with funds coming from the FY24 Budget that includes $30,000 in the Facilities and Grounds Maintenance Fund for the gazebo and fire bell repainting project and the floor resurfacing project.
All three color scheme options have the body of the gazebo painted “Pure White” and one of the accent colors being a red shade named “Stolen Kiss.”
The differences between the options are the other accent color and the color of the roof. Option one presents the gazebo roof and the other accent color as being painted in “Billard Green.”
Option two presents the roof and accent painted in “Greenblack,” with option three having the roof and accent painted in “Tricom Black.”
Trustees will be looking at each color scheme option for the gazebo to review and discuss at the April 25 meeting.
