Red Raiders, Trojans battle to soccer tie
HUNTLEY — After a hard-fought Fox Valley Conference match ended in a 1-1 tie, the Red Raiders were determined to gain a win at Dundee-Crown.
Three goals in the first half was the difference in a 3-2 HHS win over the Chargers May 2. Maddie Cummings scored two goals and Maddie Rumachik had one while Ava Trudeau had two assists and Alex Szydlowski one.
Huntley’s record stood at 11-4-3, 6-1-1 FVC for third place. They face second-place Burlington Central May 7 for senior night.
Tie against Trojans
It seemed to fit that the battle ended in a 1-1 tie after two overtime sessions April 30. A goal by Trudeau, her fourth of the season, in the 78th minute of regulation earned the hosts a deadlocked score. Gabbi Farraj had the assist on the goal.
“We were frustrated but we used the frustration to our advantage,” Trudeau said. “We’ll take a tie over a loss any day.”
“It was a great team effort to get a tie after all odds were against you,” Huntley coach Matt Lewandowski said.
The Trojans’ goal came at 60th minute. Other than that shot, Huntley senior goalie Maddie Lackovic, who has a goals against average of under 1.0, was up to the task. Lackovic made eight saves.
