Baseball squad clinches 6th FVC title in a row
HUNTLEY — Huntley’s baseball squad had just improved to 14-2 and in first place in the Fox Valley Conference with a 17-1 win over Dundee-Crown May 6.
The Red Raiders received more good news on the way back from Carpentersville. Burlington Central downed Hampshire 4-1, handing Huntley its sixth straight league championship.
Huntley finished the FVC games by hosting Burlington Central May 10.
“This means that seven graduating classes at Huntley have experienced a Fox Valley Conference championship, which is incredible,” head baseball Andy Jakubowski said.
AJ Putty led the Red Raiders’ offense in the 17-1, six inning game against a Chargers team which had lost by just one run, 2-1, to Huntley five days earlier. He had five RBIs with two home runs and one walk. Ryan Dabe hit a home run and had two RBIs along with Quinn Drews, Jason Wolter and Dylan Visvadra.
“It’s the first trophy of the season and we hope to get more,” Putty said.
Putty’s power was on display early on a balmy day at D-C’s field. TJ Jakubowski reached on a single and was board for a two-run Putty home run. Ryan Dabe was on base for the next shot, for a 5-0 lead.
“It’s better to hit in this type of weather. The ball goes a lot farther,” Putty, a senior, said.
“The hitters did a good job with their approaches,” Andy Jakubowski said.
Malachi Paplanus earned the pitching victory with a one-hitter with four innings with five strikeouts.
“Paplanus was very efficient, and he’ll be able to go Saturday against a tough team in Brother Rice,” Andy Jakubowski said.
The Red Raiders edged Dundee-Crown 2-1 May 3. TJ Jakubowski and Dabe provided the RBI hits. Mason Leske picked up the pitching win.
Loss to Rockets
Huntley fell to Burlington Central, 10-3 on May 8 for a 14-3 league record, 23-4 overall.
