Village Board to review conceptual plans for a pet crematorium
HUNTLEY — At the upcoming June 13 Village Board meeting, trustees will review a conceptual site plan and building elevations for a pet crematorium proposed by the petitioner, DeFiore Funeral & Cremation Service.
The submitted conceptual plans propose the construction of a 4,800-square-foot building on the one-acre plot of Lot 2 of the Wing Pointe Commons Subdivision, generally located at the southwest corner of Haligus Road and Huntley-Dundee Road.
According to the meeting agenda packet, the subject lot is located directly east of the existing DeFiore Funeral & Cremation Service property and is zoned “B-2 (PUD)” Highway Service District-Planned Unit Development. The proposed pet crematorium would include a pet viewing room, three garage spaces for company vehicles, and a second-floor caretaker residence.
The caretaker residence would have two bedrooms, with the whole structure needing the approval of a Special Use Permit from the board.
Village staff state that the site will be accessed via a cross-access easement shared with the neighboring retail center to the east and the funeral home to the west. The easement provides access to the retail center’s driveway on Haligus Road and the driveway in front of the funeral home on Huntley-Dundee Road.
The customer parking lot is expected to be in front of the proposed building and within the existing parking row along Huntley-Dundee Road. The new parking area will be paved to align with the neighboring properties.
The proposed building will be designed to match the neighboring DeFiore Funeral & Cremation Service property.
The proposed plan will need the approval of the Plan Commission before the petitioner moves forward with presenting final plans to the board. For this reason, at the June 13 meeting, the board will only be required to make suggestions and express any concerns they may have with the conceptual plans.
